The IRIC Student Recruitment Event offers students interested in pursuing graduate studies in the field of cancer research a unique opportunity to participate in an international student recruitment event at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Université de Montréal. The 2019 edition took place from June 12th to 14th, 2019.

June 28, 2019 $150,000 in funding from the Richard and Edith Strauss Foundation for two promising cancer research projects
IRIC is proud to announce $150,000 in funding from the Richard and Edith Strauss Foundation for two promising cancer research projects. For the “Identification of biological targets influencing the response to anti-AML drugs” project, Dr. Guy Sauvageau received $100,000 in funding. As for Dr. Sonia Cellot, Paediatric hematologist at CHU Sainte-Justine, and Brian Wilhelm, they received $50,000 in financial support for their project titled “Characterising the stem/progenitor cell of origin of high fatality pediatric leukemia”.

June 27, 2019 Trang Hoang is awarded the Ordre national du Québec and the Ordre de Montréal
On June 20, 2019, Trang Hoang, Principal Investigator at IRIC, was appointed Officer of the Ordre national du Québec. The honorary decoration, awarded by Premier François Legault, is the greatest distinction handed out by the Government of Quebec, paying tribute to exceptional people who have done outstanding work for the province.

June 6, 2019 $10M awarded to IRIC for the development of new cancer-fighting drugs and immunotherapies
IRIC has been awarded a 10-million dollar grant from the government of Quebec’s Fonds d’accélération des collaborations en santé (FACS), to develop new cancer-fighting drugs in collaboration with biopharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb and collaborators from seven academic research centres from Quebec and abroad.

The IRIC Summer School in Systems Biology includes a series of required and elective theoretical courses that cover various topics related to cellular and molecular biology of cancer, molecular genetics of eukaryotes, immuno-oncology, model organisms and approaches in systems biology.

May 2, 2019 The eIF4E factor reveals itself in a new way
This discovery made by a team of IRIC Investigators could make its way into cell biology textbooks. The laboratory of Katherine L.B. Borden recently published a study in Cell Reports revealing a new role for the eIF4E factor: actively participating in the cleavage of the terminal end of messenger RNAs in order to accelerate their conversion to protein.
