Privacy policy of the Université de Montréal
The University recognizes the importance of respecting privacy and assists all members of its community in applying best practices to protect the personal information it holds.
Highlights of the UdeM Privacy Policy
The Quebec government has modernized legislative provisions to improve the protection of its citizens’ personal information.
To meet these new legal obligations and ensure exemplary respect for privacy, the Université de Montréal has adopted a new Personal Information Protection Policy that sets out the principles applicable throughout the life cycle of personal information.
It is important that all members of the university community, as well as its partners, understand and respect these principles for the protection of personal information inherent in the performance of their duties or arising from the contract binding them to the University.
The Secretary General is responsible for the protection of personal information at the Université de Montréal. He ensures compliance with legal requirements for the protection of personal information, and supports the units in implementing the Université’s program. The Secretary General also notifies the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec and the persons concerned in the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious harm.
Governance
The university’s Board of Governors is supported by the Comité sur les technologies de l’information, la protection des renseignements personnels, l’accès et la sécurité de l’information (CTIPRPASI) in fulfilling its legal obligations.
Reporting a confidentiality incident
The University has implemented reasonable security measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of personal information collected.
It is important that staff members report any confidentiality incident to their unit’s Privacy Officer, so that the incident can be handled in accordance with the University’s procedures, and recorded in the confidentiality incident register.
