Fonds vaccin thérapeutique contre le cancer: Donations that make a real difference

In early 2020, IRIC created its brand new “Fonds vaccin thérapeutique contre le cancer”, a fund initiated by Dr. Robert Patenaude with a personal contribution of $25,000. The objective was to support the scientists involved in the project, namely the team led by Dr. Claude Perreault, in collaboration with the teams led by Sébastien Lemieux and Pierre Thibault, who work tirelessly to change the life of people affected by cancer.

IRIC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Sébastien Roy to the position of Deputy General Director, Finances & Operations at the Institute. He will begin his mandate on Monday, November 23^rd.

Renewal of Marc Therrien’s mandate as Scientific Director of IRIC

Following a meeting of the Executive Committee held on November 3, the Université de Montréal confirmed the extension of Marc Therrien’s mandate as Scientific Director of IRIC for a third period starting on June 1, 2021, for a year.

Exploring uncharted territories in RAS signaling leads to many surprises

There are over 160 small GTPase proteins in human cells that can fluctuate between an active state (“on”) and an inactive state (“off”). These work as switches to control whether intracellular signaling pathways are turned on or off. Of particular interest are GTPases of the RAS family. Mutations in these GTPases are among the main causes of human cancers, yet there are currently no therapeutics targeting RAS proteins themselves.

Fatéma Dodat, PhD student at IRIC and Faculté de Pharmacie, created a popular science blog to allow students to promote research

Lockdown and the pandemic caused multiple consequences among which an increase in screen time and more people looking for reliable scientific news. At the end of her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and passionate about popularizing science, Fatéma Dodat took advantage of this period to develop a blog (https://www.point-science.com/) that promotes accessible scientific news.
