Ludovic Tamaro: the story of a young patient saved by research
Published on January 28, 2025
On this World Cancer Day, meet Ludovic Tamaro, a 24-year-old diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplasia when he came of age.
Following failed chemotherapy treatments and a bone marrow transplant, there were few options for Ludovic.
“When I was told I had relapsed, there weren’t many solutions, in fact there weren’t any. What I felt at the time was a great sense of despair.” – Ludovic
As a last solution, Ludovic’s medical team suggested a protocol: UM171 cell therapy, a molecule discovered by IRIC researchers. Ludovic is relieved to finally have access to it. The therapy has been successful, and now offers him the chance of life.
The importance of research
“It’s because of this treatment that I’m here, literally. For me, research is super important, because it’s what’s going to help many other people regain their health, like me. To the researchers at IRIC who discovered the molecule, I’d like to say a big thank you. Research is abstract work, but in concrete terms it gave me life. I can never thank them enough and be grateful.” – Ludovic
