Published on October 3, 2024
Anca Apavaloaei, a PhD student in Claude Perrault’s laboratory, has received the 2024 Best Thesis Award in the Health Sciences category. Awarded by the Études supérieures et postdoctorales (ESP) of the Université de Montréal, these prizes recognize outstanding doctoral work.
Anca Apavaloaei’s thesis, titled “Exploring the Landscape of Actionable HLA-Associated Tumor Antigens Across Cancers,” focused on the development of a therapeutic cancer vaccine.
“The key to developing safe and effective cancer immunotherapies is to identify targetable antigens that are specific to cancer, present in tumors, but absent in normal tissues,” emphasizes Anca Apavaloaei. “Our lab hopes to begin clinical trials using these antigens in less than two years.”
