Two CRS Doctoral Research Award winners at IRIC!

IRIC would like to congratulate Myriam Iliana Ibanez Rios and Karla Lucia Paez Martinez on receiving a Doctoral Research Award from the Cancer Research Society (CRS). They are among 21 recipients of these new fellowships across the country, which offer funding of $70,000 over two years. This new CRS initiative aims to provide an essential support to the doctoral community.
Myriam Iliana Ibanez Rios, a PhD student in David Knapp’s laboratory, has been awarded funding for her project ” Understanding stromal cell contributions to the neural regulation in pancreatic cancer”. The project is co-funded by the CRS and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
Karla Lucia Paez Martinez, a PhD student in Brian Wilhelm’s laboratory, received funding for the project ” Investigation of novel anti-leukemic compounds uncovered through high throughput screening of human model leukemias”. The project is co-funded by the CRS and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
