IRIC announces the appointment of William Brock, Lawyer Emeritus of the Québec Bar Association, as new Chairman of its Board of Directors.
Partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg in Montreal, Mr Brock is listed as one of Canada’s 100 Most Creative Lawyers, one of the 500 Leading Lawyers in Canada, and as one of the Top 25 Corporate Litigators in Canada.
Mr Brock received a stem cell transplant in 2004 allowing him to recover from leukemia. Since then, he has been active in giving back to science and medicine, notably by being involved in fundraising for blood cancer research as well as in efforts to advance cellular and gene therapies.
“William Brock is a long-time ally of IRIC; his appointment as Chair of the Board of Directors delights our entire community,” underlines Michel Bouvier, IRIC’s Executive Director. “Mr. Brock is an excellent ambassador for scientific and medical research, particularly through his efforts to raise awareness among the general public.”
Involved in his community, William Brock founded The Maryse and William Brock Chair in Applied Research into Stem Cell Transplants at the Université de Montréal and Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont. He is also a member of the Centre C3i’s Board of Directors, an organization which aims to accelerate the discovery and commercialization of, and access to, cancer immunotherapy treatments. Moreover, he is the Chair of the Board of Directors of CellCAN Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Network, established to mobilize knowledge and improve the quality, safety and feasibility of cell and gene therapies in Canada.
His mobilization efforts have earned him prestigious distinctions: he received the Medal of Honor of the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal in 2010 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.
IRIC welcomes Mr. Brock to this new role and thanks him for his renewed commitment to the cause.
