Vincent-Philippe Lavallée, student at IRIC, recipient of a prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship of the CIHR

Vincent-Philippe Lavallée, PhD student at IRIC, received an important grant from the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program.
This 3-year $150 000 scholarship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), rewards students that distinguish themselves for their leadership and academic excellence.
Vincent-Philippe’s thesis, entitled “Genetic, transcriptomic and chemical interrogations of human acute myeloid leukemias” led him to study a subgroup of acute myeloid leukemias called acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). These leukemias are characterized by severe bleeding complications which are a common cause of death in this disease subset. Vincent-Philippe, in collaboration with the members of his laboratory, identified a protein called podoplanin that could be partly responsible for these bleedings. His project consists in better understanding the role of this protein in the bleeding complications of APL and to determine its utility as a diagnostic tool.
The upcoming competition of the program is officially launched. The nomination submission deadline is November 1, 2017.
The review process is based on three selection criteria: academic excellence, research potential and leadership skills.
