IRIC welcomes two Nobel Laureates
Published on April 26, 2017
At the invitation of its Chief Executive Officer, Michel Bouvier, IRIC is proud to welcome two recipients of the Nobel Prize.
The Institute received a visit from Brian Kobilka on 26 April and will welcome Robert Lefkowitz on first of June. These visits are in keeping with our efforts to encourage constructive emulation within the scientific and academic community.
Even though their visits will occur on different days, it is their joint research work which earned them this recognition. These two American doctors were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2012 for their work on their studies of G‑protein‑coupled receptors. Their discovery was a major breakthrough for the pharmaceutical industry.
Brian Kobilka is affiliated with the Stanford University School of Medicine, whereas Robert Lefkowitz is affiliated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD is James B. Duke Professor of Medicine and Professor of Biochemistry at the Duke University Medical Center. He has been an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute since 1976. Dr. Lefkowitz has received numerous awards and honors, including the National Medal of Science, the Shaw Prize, the Albany Prize, and the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, with Brian Kobilka, MD.,for their studies of G-protein-coupled receptors.
