Dr. Claude Perreault, Principal Investigator at IRIC and Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, has been elected to Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Fellows of the Academy are elected based on their demonstrated leadership, creativity, distinctive competencies and commitment to advancing academic health sciences. Membership is considered one of the highest honors for members of the Canadian health sciences community and carries with it a covenant to serve the Academy and Canadian society. The announcement was made last week at the induction ceremony held as part of the Annual General Assembly.
Trained as a hematologist, Claude Perreault is one of IRIC’s founding members. In addition to his research and training work at IRIC, Perreault is a clinical practitioner at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital where he set up both the Histocompatibility Laboratory and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Perreault is a leader in research and implementation of new cancer treatments with a specific focus in the fields of bone marrow transplantation and cancer immunotherapy. His work has led to major advances in our understanding of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), in the treatment of leukemia and in the development of a cancer vaccine.
